Aviation during winter time
Because of temperatures below the freezing point, flying in winter requires additional measures and care.
As with all processes in `real time`, a save flight starts with sufficient planning and checks. Flight planning with aviation charts, radio frequencies, information about the current status of restrictions along the planned flight route, the landing approach at the destination and fuel calculation should be self-evident. Because of the requirements for flights according to ‘Visual Flight Rules’ also and always the weather situation with wind, turbulences, clouds and visibility is essential. For the case that weather doesn’t develops as expected a so called ‘plan B’ should be available before `taking off’. In winter additional risks for ice and freeze require additional diligence.
By taking everything together into account, a flight during winter is a very nice experience, like shown with the following pictures from Saturday, the 24th. The flight with a DYNAMIC WT9 from Worms lead to land in Trier-Föhren, nearby the border to Luxemburg. After re-start, the journey followed the impressing landscape of the Mosel river to Koblenz, from Koblenz following the Rhein river for the final landing, some minutes after sunset in back in Worms.
